451 Pess is having a contest!
451 Press is having contest!
What would you buy with $300? Or even $200 or $100? Now is your chance to find out! Comment on any 451 Press site during the month of August and you could win! Three comments will be chosen at random to win a cash prize of $300, $200 or $100. The more you comment the more chances you have to win. So start reading and let those fingers fly.
You could visit some of the other blogs and talk about Lindsay Lohan, or politics or even parenting toddlers. But why would you do that when you can talk about goldfinches, bird seed and cleaning bird baths?
Here is a topic to get you started:
Would you ever consider aggressive measures to control house sparrows such as trapping?

I have CONSIDERED all manner of contols (inculding bebe guns - they are non-native and a HUGE pest sooooo…..) especially when they nest IN MY SIDING!!!! but mostly we just shoot the hose at them on JET when we see them trying to set up housekeeping.
And don’t get me started on the tree rats - I mean squirels, no, I mean TREE RATS (they ate my corn and watermelon last year - I’m still bitter)

I try to outsmart wildlife not kill it.

Larry, that is my stance. I don’t think I could bring myself to do anything but release it if I did trap one! It is difficult since they can be so detrimental to so many of our native birds, but they are interesting little birds to watch.
Heather, I should send my brother over to you. I don’t think there is any wildlife brave enough to enter where he frequents. Not that he kills them or anything. If you knew him, you would understand…

Actually I don’t. I have the philosophy that we share the earth with all these other living creatures. There is enough to go around. I try to maintain that attitude–it’s much less stressful.
I feed the squirrels, the chipmunks, and the sparrows, in addition to the finches, the wrens, the grosbeaks, the cardinals, the thrashers…I draw the line at rats, though. I let my hubby take care of those.
I understand that the non-native species can get overpopulated, but I don’t have the heart to kill them. Call me a softy.
